RE: Index Artwork
I also like that feature of displaying an image of the artist (my setting is indexArtwork=folder).
I'm wondering where to get the artwork for the artists from. Searching via Google, etc. is really time consuming. Is there any other legal (!) source for pictures of artists?

Kind regards

RE: Index Artwork
Unfortunately I don't know of that one site that has high quality images of every artist - but I'm hoping someone does and passes it on - but what I did do to start the process off was to use one of the big media centre's (Kodi/Plex/Emby) to scrape it for me so I had a starting point, and was then able to at my leisure enhance the images as needed. To speed up the process, because I'm only interested in artwork for album artists (I don't use an artist index) I created a new music repository that contained just one album for each albumartist as I didn't need it to scrape all my albums too. I can't remember how much work was required to then take them from the Kodi download folder to MinimServer (and name them appropriately) but it was a relatively painless process.

Trying to find artist images of equal resolution to album images is a big ask (assuming you don't have unlimited time) so set your requirements as low as you can :-)

RE: Index Artwork
I have a related query, although more from a beginner's standpoint. My music library is stored on a Windows PC and streamed to a Linn DSM using one of the 2 Linnn apps (whichever happens to feel like working) on an iphone. (Is there a better control app for iOS?).
I tend to use folder view and most of the artwork displays without problem. However some do not, even though there is a jpg file supplied with the download. It appears entirely arbitary which display and which do not.
Some folders do not have a jpg file and yet the artwork displays anyway (I assume it is embeddded in some way)
I have tried making my own images and putting them into folders which do not have artwork but none of those has ever worked. I would love to choose a specific image for the 'Jazz' folder and then another image for the artist folder and then the specific album artwork for the albums in the folder. My understanding is that that should be possible. I can't find any clue as to why some work and some don't; the one's that don't work, don't work irrespective of which view I use. I have tried 'indexArtwork=auto' and '=all' but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: Index Artwork
You have raised a number of issues here. As a first step, I would like to understand why some album folders don't show artwork even though they contain a .jpg file. This could be because the filename of the .jpg file isn't one of the filenames that MinimServer looks for.

Please post an example of one of these album folders that don't show artwork. What is the album name, the folder name and the name of the .jpg file?

When we have resolved this, we can move on to the other points you have raised. Some of these might be addressed by fixing the album folder issue.

Hi, as an example, in my music library I have a 'Classical' folder; inside this there is a folder named 'Rachmaninov'; within that there are folders for 2 albums: a folder named, 'Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No.3 & Variations on a Theme of Corelli' - and, 'Rachmaninov - Vespers Op. 37'

Each folder has pdf and jpg verions of the artwork.

In the first the pdf artwork has the identical title to the folder: the jpg version appears to have the abreviated title 'Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto No.3'.

In the second folder are pdf and jpg versions of the artwork with the exact same title as the folder.

I have tried to upload the whole 'Rachmaninov' folder, but apparently I am only able to upload single files. The pdf files are also apparently too large to attach. The jpg files are attached.

Thanks for your help.

RE: Index Artwork
The rules for artwork display in folder view are described in the final subsection of the Artwork section.

MinimServer does not support .pdf artwork files. For .jpg artwork files, the filename must be either folder.jpg or cover.jpg. If neither of these is present, MinimServer looks for artwork embedded in audio files in the folder.

I think it would make sense to add a lookup for an .jpg or .png file whose filename exactly matches the folder name. This would be the first lookup, before the lookup for folder.jpg, folder.png, cover.jpg and cover.png. I will add this to the list of requested enhancements to be implemented in a future MinimServer update. I don't have any plans to add support for .pdf artwork files.
