RE: Question about the licence model and browsing through music
(07-07-2022 20:01)simbun Wrote: Are you saying that you're selecting Audio Type Filter='Music' yet you're still seeing artists that should be under Compilations?Addition in this regard: I have compared the tracks of the audio files that appear although they should not with those that are correctly not displayed. In both cases the same tags are used. There are similarities in the tags COMPILATION=1 and ALBUMARTIST=Various Artists. However, I was able to find one difference: The tracks that are incorrectly displayed are all tagged with ID3v2.4. The tracks that are hidden are all tagged with ID3v2.3. |

RE: Question about the licence model and browsing through music
Don't you just love mp3!
I wrote compilation=1 to an mp3 with foobar and mp3tag to ID3v2.4, and they both worked (I have your setup replicated this end), although looking at the actual mp3 headers, foobar wrote the tag TXXX.Compilation and mp3tag wrote the tag TCMP. What tag editor are you using? Could you look at the headers of the mp3 using an ASCII hexdump to see exactly what's being stored? I don't know what platform you're on, but the easiest way would be to use: Code: hexdump -C 01.mp3 > mp3.logIf you then open mp3.log you should be able to see something like the attached image. If you can't find the compilation flag, it may be easier to set Compilation=Music-Guy in the mp3 and then create the log with the same command and search for Music-Guy. The attached image is of the file written by mp3tag and shows TCMP=1. By the way, at some point we may need to evaluate your use of just Artist as I noticed you said you've populated AlbumArtist='Various Artists'. From the online help: Quote:The Artist and AlbumArtist tags are indexed specially, as follows: |

"ALBUMARTIST" is only present in the compilations and there it is always "Various Artists". So far I have had no problems with this. What problems are to be expected? In the case of collaborations with two or more artists, I have solved the problem by placing the "main artist" in the "ARTIST" tag and the other artist(s) in the "TITLE" tag as ".... (feat. xxx)". |

RE: Question about the licence model and browsing through music
If you right click on the MinimWatch tray icon and select 'Show Log', clear it and then from the MinimWatch tray icon select 'Rescan', do you see any errors?
I've just noticed that I see some related to DateDecade filter, so I'll have to look into that. We're looking for any related to those files specifically, but any others are worth mentioning. |

I edited the tags of some compilation files (with mp3tag) that are (correctly) not shown in "Artists" so that exactly the same tags are used as by the files that are shown. No both files have ID3v2.4 tags. But the behaviour is still the same. Then i Then I compared the details of the two files with foobar, but could not find any relevant difference. Lastly, I tested "fix VRR header" and "rebuild mp3 stream" via foobar. This did not make any difference either. RE: Question about the licence model and browsing through music
It doesn't matter whether files are tagged with TCMP or TXXX:Compilation. MinimServer maps both of these to COMPILATION.
The presence/absence/value of COMPILATION makes no difference to which artists are displayed. COMPILATION is just a tag that can appear in the index. The "problem" with some artists not appearing in the index appears to be caused by using the Artist index. As I have tried to explain in previous posts, this index does not include Artist values for files that have an AlbumArtist tag (including files with COMPILATION=1 and ALBUMARTIST=Various Artists). You should be able to fix the DateDecade sort conflict warnings by changing DateDecade.decade.index to DateDecade.decade.index.sort. |

Of the files that have COMPILATION=1 and ALBUMARTIST=Various Artists, ALL also have a tag ARTIST=[insert_artist_here]. But still, some of the artists are shown in the artist index, and some are not. Also, I can't see any other difference in the files that are displayed and those that are not. ALL other audio files also have the tag ARTIST=[insert_artist_here]. Only the tags COMPILATION and ALBUMARTIST are not present. However, the artists of these files are displayed correctly without exception. |

RE: Question about the licence model and browsing through music
Think we need to simplify this as things are getting confusing.
I believe the COMPILATION=1 and Artist values appearing are/were two different issues, so let's tackle the Artist values first. If all albums with COMPILATION=1 also have AlbumArtist='Various Artists' then you shouldn't see any other Artist values from the Artist index after selecting to view Compilations (as that's what the Artist index does), but you will see the track artist when viewing at a track level. To test this, select 'Audio Type Filter'='Compilation' and then have a look in the Artist index. If all files have been correctly tagged the index shouldn't even be there, but if it is go to 'n items' and look at the 'Show Metadata' to find the path and have a look at its tags. |

RE: Question about the licence model and browsing through music
Just in case you're not doing this in realtime :-)
For the second test, select 'Audio Type Filter'='Music', go to the Artist index (which shouldn't contain 'Various Artists' unless you have an album without COMPILATION=1) and select one of the Artists that you believe should be tagged with COMPILATION=1 and ALBUMARTIST=Various Artists, select 'n items' and get the path from the track metadata and have a look at its tags (and list them out here if you can). |
