RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
I do not understand. Does this mean I shouldn't be using EasyTag?
More important, where and how should I add the DISCNUMBER and what should it be if I have merged the two CD rips into one "album." Easytag has a window for setting CD but all tracks are showing 001. |

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
I suggest you tag all tracks with DISCNUMBER=001 as this is what you have been doing so far. This is the simplest approach.
It is fine to continue using EasyTag. EasyTag knows about different tag formats for different file types. The only choice you might need to make is to tick the ID3v2.4 box if there is one. |

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
Hi Simon,
Forgive me for being so dumb but how and where should I edit the tags if not using EasyTag? Meanwhile I have given it my best shot using Easytag and all looks consistent now on master files and on the file Qnap Filestation which shows just the 58 files of this album in correct order. Unfortunately on the control point I have something rather different:- Even after rescanning on the NAS and re-scanning the library on the control point the playlist starts with tracks 42 through 58 and then goes on to 1 to 41. I can no longer see any anomalies although in my EasyTag preferences have the padding set to 3 digits because some works (not many,) have three CDs with a total of more than 99 tracks. I am not at all sure about the other preferences, for example splitting the Genre entry with a - which I thought would show the album in both genres, in this case Liturgical - Choral but this is certainly not what has caused the numbering problem and doesn't work as I had hoped. Any further suggestions would be much appreciated. |

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
Hi Budgie,
First off, you're actually getting advice from two people, simoncn (author of MinimServer) and simbun (a MinimServer user). Fortunately we're both Simon so 'Hi Simon' works, but that may help to explain why the replies don't necessarily follow. As an experiment I mocked up an album to see what it would look like through folder view and when added to the playlist. I used a single CD album consisting of 10 tracks to base my changes on, and I removed the DISCNUMBER from tracks 7-10, and changed the tags AlbumArtist and Album for tracks 5-10 so they differed from tracks of 1-4. This aproximates what we saw with your tags from the listing. When I browse using [folder view] to the folder, and add the contents to a playlist the results I see are: Code: Track 1This replicates what you're seeing, the difference is I also see this in the folder view too, so I assume you have some 'folder.sortTags{} setting in affect? If I change just the DiscNumber so that all tracks match then they're sorted correctly in both locations. At this point we need to confirm what changes you've made, so could you run the following again: Code: rm -f minim_tags.txtThere's no need to include the contents here, but could you look through minim_tags.txt to check that all the tracks have the same DiscNumber? The format is simply ## file name, followed by the tags belonging to that file. I'll have a play with EasyTag shortly. |

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
There is no need to change your tagging program from EasyTag to something else. Just make sure you have DISCNUMBER tagged on all files as well as TRACKNUMBER.

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
You both have it right and the problem is with the DISKNUMBER.
In Easytag the CD number is shown as 001 on all files but this is not getting written in the tags. I had thought this would be referring to the DISKNUMBER but perhaps not so I ask again, how may I edit the DISKNUMBER please? |

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
(03-06-2022 13:48)Budgie Wrote: Easytag has a window for setting CD but all tracks are showing 001.How are you checking this, by selecting each file individually from the Filename tab? If you select multiple files at the same time the metadata it displays is only from one of the tracks, maybe the last one selected. In the attached picture even though multiple files are selected it's only showing values from the file 01.03.flac, which does have a DiscNumber tag of 01, but the other files don't have that tag populated. I don't know if the Windows version is the same as the Linux version, but in the attached screenshot I've opened up a folder of FLAC files and it shows that the tag in question is 'FLAC Vorbis Tag'. When opening up a folder containing MP3 files that changes to 'ID3 Tag', so it does correctly identify the appropriate tag standard to use. In the EasyTag preferences window, under ID3 Tags, any changes you make there will be reflected only if you're editing MP3 files because ID3 is the tagging standard for MP3, and that should be set to Version ID3v2.4 as simoncn has already pointed out. The reason there's only an ID3 Tags setting preference and not a Vorbis one (for flac) is because the ID3 standard has evolved over the years, and some versions of that standard are better supported than others (so it gives you the choice), all the other tagging standards haven't changed, so there's only one way to do it correctly. I hope this helps.. |

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
You have it and al always it was my mistake.
Still no idea why the series had been split at what seems to be an arbitrary 41-42 but must be an artefact from when I tagged the original rip of CD2 and this has been carried forward ever since. I offer no excuse but ask forgiveness for not being thorough in checking as I thought I had moved down every file and could have sworn all were showing 001 but not it seems. Time to close and feed the dogs. Hope you have a great weekend. Thanks again to both Simons! Budge. |

RE: Troubleshooting problem with file numbering display
I would say EasyTag is at least in part to blame for this, as it's not a good user experience to show the values from just one file when multiple are selected; I don't know of any other application that does it this way.
Glad we got it sorted it in the end, and have a good weekend. |
