RE: Announcing MinimServer 2 for QNAP
There are some changes in MinimServer 2 that will make stopping much quicker. Smile

So long as they don't also make starting much slower ... Smile

Tried installing V2 this morning. It appeared to go OK however could not see it in MinimWatch and could not access it through the browser. I have currently reverted to 0.8 and all is OK. I did that in part to see if I'd changed some access setting on the QNAP which would make it undiscoverable.

I was installing it on a QNAP 559 Pro II running 4.2.6.

Thanks for letting me know about this. My HS-251+ has a later version of QTS and this is why I did not find this incompatibility during testing. The log gives me all the information that I need to investigate and hopefully fix the problem.

Thank you once again for your excellent support. The test build worked perfectly so owners of older QNAP NAS which cannot run the latest version of the QTS operating system can now install MinimServer 2.

I gather the "new" build will be available shortly as production.

Peter

Peter thank you for your reply in the other thread. It has been locked by moderator so I cannot write in there. From the date of your chat with Simon I can see it was yesterday. My download was today late afternoon. So the fix appears to be not in prodution yet. Since I have no signs of life from Simon: how did he get the test build over to you? Is it somewhere in a beta corner of the download page?

My post in this thread was afternoon today just after I’d received the test build. He sent me a link to the file.

If you can give him a little more time, I’m sure it will be available soon. There may be work that needs to be done before making it generally available.

RE: Announcing MinimServer 2 for QNAP
There are a number of things that need to be done to convert a test build to a production build. It takes a bit of time to go through this process carefully and make sure that the production downloads for all platforms are correct.

Test builds are made available to an individual user to test a change. They must never be shared between users in any circumstances. Also, I would prefer that users who have received test builds do not discuss them on the forum. The reason for this should be evident from this recent series of posts.

The official 2.0.11 build is available now from the download page and should fix this problem.

That is all ok and understood, Simon. And I would appreciate to get a kind of notification from you before you lock a thread down while I was editing some additional information. In the end I was happy that Peter wrote to me so I knew that something was going on. Otherwise I would have been pretty upset tbh. Me sitting with a problem, you closing the thread with no communication to me left me in limbo. I have lost the properties due to my blindflight repair actions. So I am pretty upset tbh.

I have not locked or closed any threads. I see that the other thread where you reported the problem is locked but I did not do this.

I try to respond to problem reports as soon as possible but I cannot be on the forum 24/7.

I don't have every QNAP model and firmware level available here for testing. I do as much testing as I can before a release but there is always a possibility that a user with a different hardware platform or QTS version might encounter a problem.

Are you sure that you have lost your previous property settings? The MinimServer 2 installer should have copied them to the new 'MinimServer' shared folder before the crash. Uninstalling MinimServer 2 or MinimServer 0.8 does not remove your property settings from this new location. After installing MinimServer 2, your previous settings do not show up in MinimWatch 2 until you activate either a trial license or a full license.

If you have lost your property settings, I am sorry for the inconvenience of needing to re-enter them.

RE: Announcing MinimServer 2 for QNAP
Good morning Simon,
when I edited the 2nd post in the other thread I was about to highlight there was another message from the NAS during installation of Minimserver 2. When I hit the "post" button I got "you cannot .... because this thread was closed by a moderator". You may know who your moderators are, I thought you were the only one.

Regarding the settings: I shall know after install of the new package. But I am pretty sure. In the first round of installation I trust that the properties were copied from 0.85. Since I could not do anything with the new version I looked around on my NAS. I found there were 2 Minimserver Icons: one in the AppCenter, the other one on the main desktop of the admin page. I clicked on the icon on desktop (the icon, not the start/open button) and a new window popped up showing some information about the app. Inluding an old screenshot from 0.81. I was in believe that was a remains from the old version and removed it. Both Icons were gone and I think I removed the entire application from the NAS. I redid the V2 install. If there was no old settings left to copy I guess I have the defaults. I'll let you know.

I can recover the settings from the other NAS manually or copy/paste them over. Only one concerning me: long time ago on the old NAS I could not enter ffmpeg as it was not found. You helped me out with a fully qualified share path / ffmpeg string. Do you still know that one?.

RE: Announcing MinimServer 2 for QNAP
Everything is ok. The settings were there once I activated the license.
