RE: Random interruptions
Simon, would you mind checking this log.
I am not sure what I am looking for but hope this is a stream without the glitches.

After resetting the iMac as AMG suggested I set the player to go through 15 or so albums and went to bed.

RE: Random interruptions
New incident type - this time the music carried on playing but the windows on the Mac screen were flying left to right and back at high speed! Occurred around 9:45-9:55

I had open Safari (on this forum), Finder and Minimserver (in the background) when I chose "properties" in the MS dropdown it opened something and everything started whizzing from left to right and back - it took quite a lot of attempts to click on the Finder to stop the phenomenon!

There is no possibility that MinimServer could be causing this to happen. The log shows that at this time MinimServer was streaming the file Sarva-Antah/Mantras from Tibet III/02 Sarva-Antah - OM AMA RANI Mantra.wav to the renderer with no problems. It seems likely that there is some issue with your iMac that has caused this and may possibly be causing the other issues.

There are log entries at 23:45:32 that show the streaming of Gjallarhorn/Rimfaxe/02 Gjallarhorn - Kokkovirsi (Bonfire Song).wav was interrupted. Was this caused by some action of yours at this time? I don't see any other problems.

Most disturbing, I can assure you. Screen whizzing from side to side and no keyword response. Bit like a fairground attraction trying to click in the speeding Finder window - not easy with a visual handicap!

RE: Random interruptions
What you are experiencing with the desktops jumping back and forth is a MacOS bug that has existed for years. It only impacts certain types of apps and Apple has shown little interest in fixing it.

I'm guessing that you're using Spaces for multiple virtual desktops.

Here's what likely happened.

At some point you had a MinimServer window (likely the logs) open in one space / desktop, but didn't close it (let's call this Desktop A). At some point in the future you opened the MinimServer properties window in a different space (let's call this Desktop B).

In most cases MacOS is smart about this and switches to the desktop with the already open window before opening the new window. With some types of applications MacOS is stupid and ignores the fact that another window is open so it just opens the new window on the current desktop. In doing that it brings the app to the foreground which causes Spaces to switch to Desktop A as that's where MacOS thinks the application is open. The problem is that the window that is now in the foreground is on Desktop B so it switches back to B. This sets up an endless loop as MacOS gets confused about which desktop it's supposed to be on.

This isn't a Minimserver problem or bug but it happens to be that MinimServer is one of the types of applications impacted by Apple's bug.

Best course of action is always to close Minimserver windows when you aren't actively looking at them or make sure that you always interact with MinimServer from the same Space. If it does get into this state then you can stop it by clicking on any other window. Once that application is brought to the foreground the jumping will stop. Then you can quit and restart MinimServer.

RE: Random interruptions
Not consciously using "Spaces"
Apart from the parameters you suggested over the weekend, the Mac is very much as it came out of the box a few years back. I have only really changed a couple of parameters in the "monitor" tab to persuade the Mac to write things a bit bigger.
I definitely came out fo the problem by clicking of the Finder window.
