RE: Random interruptions
Checking through he Asset settings, I found a feature enabled - "prevent sleep while running" or words to that effect.

Does MS have this?

RE: Random interruptions
Just stopped playing again - look at the period shortly before 11am

Prior to that MS had gone "offline" and it took some effort to get it back on.

RE: Random interruptions
The control app is displaying "nothing found" after this interruption

Up till now the music restarted after a certain lapse

I just don(t understand it - last night I programmed 4 albums while we were playing scrabble and everything went OK - I mean it is not as if you have to be using the Mac for something else for the problem to disappear or appear.

Back to playing CDs for the moment :-(

RE: Random interruptions
This log shows a problem at 10:58:06 while streaming the file 傣族/Music of Hulusi/03 傣族 - 蘆笙戀歌.wav. The renderer closed the HTTP connection. Is it possible that there was a power down or network glitch at this time?

After this, everything looks normal with the next streaming request received from the renderer 7 seconds later at 10:58:13.

You might find it useful to leave the MinimServer log window open and look at what messages are written when you perform actions from the control point.

RE: Random interruptions
This is likely an issue of your mac going to sleep during playback as Simon mentioned. Based on what I've read here you've likely changed the wrong setting on your iMac.

1) Go to the main MacOS settings app and select Energy Saver
2) Make sure that "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" is CHECKED
3) Make sure that "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" is UNchecked

The other settings on this screen aren't relevant for this use case.

4) Now go to the "Desktop and Screen Saver" section of settings
5) Select the Screen Saver tab
6) In the bottom left corner of that window make sure "Start After" is set to Never

The reason for the latter is that some of these screen savers are CPU pigs and can interrupt I/O when they start if there's a resource constraint. This can cause network I/O to interrupt at the operating system level which could result in some instability.

Furthermore, make sure that Minimserver is the only UPnP software running on the mac. Don't try to run Asset or Twonky at the same time as the behavior will be unpredictable.
