RE: Minimserver greyed out
MinimWatch uses the Java runtime. This should be listed as either "javaw.exe" or "Java TM Platform SE binary".

Your reference to "Internet Connections for Programs" suggests that you might have your local LAN connection configured in Windows as public, not private. If this is the case, changing the network type to private might fix the problem.

RE: Minimserver greyed out
Dear Mr. simoncn:

I bow to thee! I changed "Java TM Platform SE binary" from Designated Ports to "All Devices", and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MinimWatch is GREEN!! Smile

I will check on the public/private issue.

But one last question. Am I leaving myself vulnerable to attack leaving "Java TM Platform SE binary" and "Linn Konfig" as "All Devices" instead of the recommended "Use designated ports (all devices)" ? If so, I can open them up only when I need them which isn't too often anyway.

Thanks again simoncn!!

John A.

RE: Minimserver greyed out
Opening up these applications (especially Java) to allow all ports on a public network could be a security exposure. This is why it is important to set your local LAN to private if it is not set as private currently. I don't use McAfee but I would hope that it allows different settings for private and public networks (other firewalls do). If so, you could open these ports for private networks only.

RE: Minimserver greyed out
Thanks again! I checked my Windows Firewall settings for McAfee, and it shows that for "Home or work (private) networks", I am "Connected". And for "Public Networks" I am "Not connected". So it looks ike I am OK.

Thanks again!

Regards;

John

RE: Minimserver greyed out
Maybe this could be useful:

I also had the Minimwatch icon greyed out in the status bar in the lower right corner of the screen. As such I couldn't select "Rescan" to update the library after changing metadata and adding files. I tried to restart Minimwatch from the Start menu (bottom left) but that didn't make the Minimwatch icon green and the rescan command active.

At the same time the streaming om my mediaplayer was working fine.

When right-clicking the Minimwatch icon I still had the option of "Restart", even if the icon was grey.
Doing a restart made the Minimserver start again AND the Minimwatch icon changed from grey to green, and I could do a rescan again.

I have no idea if we're talking about the same issue here. But since the fix I did only took a split second it might be worth a try for other people experiencing the greyed out Minimwatch icon.

Regards,
Claus

RE: Minimserver greyed out
Claus;

Thanks for the reply. I think it was a different problem, though possibly related on some level. In my case, the only functions in Minmwatch that were NOT grayed out were "Options", "Refresh", and "Exit". The rest were grayed out (and thereby unaccessible), including Rescan and Restart.

Thanks again.

John

RE: Minimserver greyed out
John, it could very well be that what I did was "Refresh", not "Restart". I wrote the text by memory and wasn't aware that both options existed.

And at least the number of available options (at the bottom of the menu, I think) seems to fit with mine.

RE: Minimserver greyed out
Refresh tells MinimWatch to poll the network for any changes to available servers and update the icons accordingly.

RE: Minimserver greyed out
I appear to have a new Minimwatch problem. I hope Mr. Simon Nash is watching. It is grayed out again, but it shows the following message, both when I pass the cursor over the grayed out icon, and in the log:

"Unable to delete old module file C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\MinimWatch\libext\jminim-0.7.109.jar"
Startup complete

It is definitely some kind of error message since the musical note symbol on the grayed out icon is red. Have you ever seen this? I suspect there are a number of things that can cause a grayed out icon and loss of functionality. Music plays fine, as usual, with this issue. I wonder if Minimwatch just got updated, but the update was either incomplete or was somehow interrupted. I have seen it turn red if an incorrect "ohnet.subnet", which appears to be blank normally. When I right-click and select "Options/About (watch)", it shows I have version 0.8.4, and when selecting "Show updates" on the same window, it says that "minimwatch-0.8-update-54" is available. I clicked install, and it went green after a few seconds. You might check for updates if you are still having trouble with it.

All appears to be OK now.

John

RE: Minimserver greyed out
This is likely to be caused by a failure to install an update, perhaps because of a temporary network or server issue. As you have discovered, retrying the update should solve the problem.
