How to download MinimServer to Synology

I have newly acquired a Synology DS 216+. I am trying to follow the instructions to download (1) Java 8 and (2) MinimServer. I've come up against a couple of issues straightaway:

1. If I go to Utilities, as directed, I cannot see Java 8
2. Similar point with MinimimServer

I suspect that new Synology NAS' no longer have these within the package. How do I go about downloading them from the Internet and where do I install them for my music?

I am not sure what you mean by "Utilities", but java is in the package center

Are you under DSM 6.0 ?

In that case, Java 8 is in the Developer tools section, and minimserver you must download from the download page here http://minimserver.com/downloads/

then follow http://minimserver.com/install-synology.html

The reference to Utilities on the MinimServer install page is for installing Java Manager on DSM 5.2 or earlier. Do you have DSM 5.2 or DSM 6.0?

I have DSM 6.0.

I will try to improve the organization of the information in the Synology installation page so that it is easier to see which parts apply to DSM 6.0 and which parts apply to DSM 5.2. For now, you need to read some of the sections carefully to see which information applies to DSM 6.0 and which information applies to DSM 5.2.

I'm missing a key step here. I have successfully downloaded Java 8 from the Package Center. I know precisely which .spk file to download from the Internet.

However, I dont know how to get that file from the Internet to my Synology NAS. Do I go to the Download Center? Then what? Can someone give me a step-by-step guide as to how to get the file from the Internet into my NAS?

I'm knew to this and it shows!

1) Download the .spk file to a PC or Mac

2) From the same PC or Mac, open the Package Center in DSM

3) Make sure the Package Center Trust Level is set to 'Any publisher'

4) Click Manual install

5) You will get a file chooser window that enables you to select the .spk file from the local file system on your PC or Mac

Thanks. Will try it once I get home this evening. "Trust Level" has been my missing step, I think.
