I don't know how you load files to the Melco (from a NAS maybe?), but can't you access files to load to the Melco from your computer via the travel router?

I would expect that placing a travel router between the N1 player port and the player would reduce sound quality, even if no other activity is happening on the travel router. I haven't tried this myself (I don't have a travel router) and I would be interested to hear whether anyone has tried a listening comparison between a direct Ethernet connection and a connection using a travel router.

To do that I would have to connect the travel router wifi to my main wifi which would then, I believe, expose the travel router to all the spurious network traffic that this setup is trying to avoid. So I could either temporarily connect the wifi or more easily just swap the travel router cable on the back of the Melco for a normal router cable. This will also give faster thransfer than wifi.

Yes I maintain all my music on my QNAP and then use a utility to copy anything that's changed to the Melco.

I have given the Melco a static IP address so I can load a playlist to the DSM and then unplug the LAN port. Probably need to do more listening but I'm struggling to hear a difference between having a cable in the LAN port or not. This surprised me as I can hear a difference between different cables connecting the Melco to the LAN. Or at least I think I can

Which is what I am looking at achieving, although it is proving tricky. In Direct Mode this for me represents the best of the playback, I can detect improvement in the playback quality, so although it may appear a minor point it would be great to have CP access while in Direct Mode.

In Network mode everything is available and zero issues for me, except I do want that library control while in Direct Mode.

I have placed a router with its own WiFi network in the signal path between Player Port out of N1A and into N272 NAIM streamer, but no joy thus far, using Kinsky this is. Still testing, not sure what a Travel Router would add to this mind I am not sure Melco have got this quite right as yet?

It is the worst option. All advantages of Melco with the dedicated ethernet port ("Player" port for direct connection to streamer) are lost and Melco turns into normal NAS.

It mean that there is no difference in SQ between Direct Mode and Network Mode with static IP address. And Network Mode with static IP provides sufficient isolation from network and the Internet even with the patch cord connected to LAN port of Melco.
