RE: Melco Audiophile NAS
About Samsung Evo SSD vs HDD.
1. My experience.
Replacing of HDD 2.5 inch 2 TB for SSD Samsung 840 Evo 1 TB gave the considerable improving of SQ of my NAS DIY (more details and air, larger scene from the line between loudspeakers forward, and not only in depth behind them as usual) and SQ of my NAS DIY only after such changes at least didn't become worse than SQ of N1Z. But I seem already wrote about it somewhere.
2. Japanese Fidata introduced two audiophile NAS à la Melco N1 but without front display and playback facilities through usb port. They are absolutely identical but one with two WD custom HDD 2TB and another with two Samsung Evo 850 500GB. NAS with SSD sounds better.

Many Thanks

The installation instructions are currently experimental and unofficial. When people request these instructions via the forum, I am replying with private messages (PMs). I will send you a PM with the instructions.

RE: Melco Audiophile NAS
Simon, have tried to run the Kazoo control app on the Melco, either with Twonky or Minimserver?
You had mentioned in an earlier post that Mode 1 (Kinsky) is the OpenHouse renderer protocol but I can't get Kazoo (iPhone or iPad) to recognize the N1A.

RE: Melco Audiophile NAS
I've never had any luck with Kazoo and I've wondered if a possibility is that it's looking for a network player specifically called 'Main Room' (though that wouldn't really make sense as it's possible to have multiple Linn streamers presumably with different names) and it's not possible to enter a network device name with a space in it on the Melco! Probably a bad theory.

I've read of other people successfully using the Arcam app 'MusicLife'. This doesn't work for me either - not finding the source player, much like Kazoo.

RE: Melco Audiophile NAS
I think this is probably caused by some unintended incompatibility between Melco's implementation of OpenHome and Kazoo's implementation of OpenHome. The best place to ask about this would be on the Linn forum. There is an active thread there discussing a similar problem with the upmpdcli renderer.

I'm able to use Arcam's app, used Mode 0, but it doesn't have gapless playback which is a deal breaker for me.

Just FYI, I have Kazoo on iPad, android and PC working fine with both Twonky (pah) and with MinimServer on Melco N1A Big Grin

What ver of Kazoo do you have? Do tell, did you have to set up the N1A in any way or any issues?
