I think you misunderstood my post: when I select Work_Rating, then select ♪♪♪♪, then select Œuvre (the index entry for Work_Rated), MinimServer shows all available values for Work_Rated with the already selected Work_Rating value of ♪♪♪♪. It does not show the items or groups containing Work_Rated tags. To see these items or groups, you need to select a Work_Rated value and this produces the expected results (complete groups shown, not individual tracks).

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
it seems a little difficult to understand each other Smile
so, to be precise, what do you mean by MinimServer "shows all available values for Work_Rated with the already selected Work_Rating value of ♪♪♪♪", what values do you see ?

when i do the same selections than you, i get expected Work_Rated values with ♪♪♪♪, but also all the other values contained in the group "the Invention à deux voix", not rated or having different rating ; This is a side effect of the group, because if I remove it, I get the expected behavior ?

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
This behaviour is expected because of the following rules for how groups are treated:

(1) All tags of all tracks in a group are copied to the group

(2) When tracks are contained in a group, browsing selects the whole group (not specific tracks)

Applying these rules to your example:

A track of the group has Work_Rating=♪♪♪♪, so the group also has this Work_Rating value (1)

A track of the group has Work_Rated=Invention No 1 en Ut M BWV 772 ♪♪♪, so the group also has this Work_Rated value (1)

... and likewise for all other tracks in the group, so the group has many Work_Rating values and many Work_Rated values

Your first selection is Work_Rating = ???? which selects the whole group (2)

Your second selection is Work_Rated, which shows all Work_Rated values for the already selected group (1)

Your third selection of any of the Work_Rated values selects the whole group (2)

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
thanks for the explanation.
What is confusing is that the selection of rated_Work index shows the values of the group among others without us knowing that they come from a group.

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
With the intended use of groups this should not be an issue. A group would usually be something like a concerto containing three files for the movements. Most tags would be the same for all items in the group, (e.g., work, artists, instruments and rating) and the group would usually be browsed, selected and played as a whole.

It appears you are using groups for a different purpose that requires drilling down into the group to browse and select its contents. Perhaps you would find it preferable to use some other grouping tag name of your choice for this purpose.

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
I almost always use groups the classic way ; in this case, the CD has 33 tracks so i created 2 groups to get a clearer album view ; i think it's the only way to do this, but indeed, this use of groups seems to be problematic, so i will avoid it.

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
You could divide the album into different discs and name the discs using the DiscSubtitle tag. This retains the original tagging and creates a visual separation between different subsections of the album.

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
Thanks for the tip: this could have been a workaround for a single CD, but it's part of a 15-CD set, so I'd rather keep the original numbering.

RE: Questions about tag formatting limitations
MinimServer update 259 is available now. This update includes the change to indexFormat and groups that we discussed and also has support for reverseName [suffix].
