This log shows that MinimWatch and ohNet are working normally and they are using the correct adapter. ohNet is sending an SSDP discover request and it isn't getting any response back from MinimServer.

The next step is to double-check your firewall and application permission settings. From System Preferences, open Security and Privacy.

1) On the General tab, what is the setting for "Allow applications downloaded from"?

2) On the Firewall tab, is the Firewall on or off?

3) If you click on Firewall Options, what do you see in the list of programs that are allowed to receive incoming connections? On my system, I see Java, MinimServer and MinimWatch in this list.

4) On the same page, what are your settings for "Block all incoming connections", "Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections", and "Enable stealth mode"? I have the second checked and the first and third unchecked.

It would also be worth running a similar trace on MinimServer to see whether it is receiving the SSDP discover request from MinimWatch and responding to it. For this, you need to set the MinimServer ohnet.debug property to All-Timer and the MinimServer logging level to Debug. You can do this from the MinimWatch GUI on your other laptop. After you have done this, do the following:

1) Close all instances of MinimWatch
2) From the ReadyNAS control panel, disable MinimServer
3) From the ReadyNAS control panel, enable MinimServer
4) On the Mac, start MinimWatch and wait for 30 seconds
5) From the ReadyNAS control panel, disable MinimServer

You will find a minimserver.log file in the Backup share of the NAS. Zip this file and attach it here. Thanks!

Hi simon,

- the download setting is "App Store and Certified Developers". I have now changed this to accept all ("No restrictions").
- I have no firewall running on the Mac that runs MinimWatch
- I have switched off/on MinimServer on the NAS, restarted MinimWatch, and now its is running!.

I had done the off/on game in NAS-Panel before but it did not do anything, so I assume that the download setting above was the culprit. I'll monitor the situation and let you know.

I'm glad to hear you've got this working. Please remove the ohnet.debug and .logLevel lines from your minimwatch.config file, as these will cause unnecessary overhead for normal operation. I suggest you keep the ohnet.subnet setting.

On my Mac (running Lion 10.7.5), the corresponding "Allow applications" setting is "Mac App Store and identified developers", and I have this checked. The change in wording from "identified developers" to "certified developers" may be significant, as I am currently in the "identified" category (MinimServer is self-signed) but not in the "certified" category. To become "certified", I would need to sign MinimServer with a certificate from Apple that would cost me $99/year.

the wording difference is likely my translation, as I have German language installed, which says "App Store und verifizierte Entwickler".

I may play around changing it back to that setting, but for now I'm happy its running and will leave it alone
