Not quite fair to run medieval firmware and blame Simon for not writing user friendly software or having to "learn" something. If OP learns to always keep his firmware up-to-date he will be part of the show. If not - tough luck

QNAP has decided not to allow owners of the TS-109 to keep their firmware up to date. Anyone owning one of these these models (or the 209 or 409) is stuck with a 2011 firmware vintage.

bbrip's point is that obviously I would not have had updated my firmware even if QNAP would allow that.

Thank you very much - before going further I'll try this with Audionet.

I've now tried this approach using Audionet as the control point - switching to another server and then back does a refresh of the MinimServer library and picks up any new files added.

1) You refer to 'the iPod'. I've only used Audionet on an iPad mini and an iPhone 4: what precise device are you using?
2) Compatibility is stated as iOS 6.0 or later. I'm using iOS 7.1.2: which iOS are you using?
3) Have you bought the In-App purchase to extend the playlist? Maybe playback could be inhibited if you have not and try to play more than 10 tracks.
4) An updated version, 1.4.0, was released on 7 Sept 2014: have you tried this?

In the last 6 months I've used the Audionet control app with Naim, Cyrus, Krell and Sonore renderers without any problems. I've accessed MinimServer libraries via MinimServer installed on a Synology DS412+ and installed on a Mac Pro.

I have an iPod Touch 5G running iOS 6.1.6. The discovery problem prevents me from creating a playlist, so playlist size isn't the issue. I have just updated from 1.2.0 to 1.4.0 and I am now seeing that Audionet can discover some of my MinimServer instances but not others. Pressing the Rescan button in Audionet doesn't help with discovering the missing instances.

When I select a MinimServer library, the top-level menu is automatically resorted and divided into alphabetical sections. I couldn't find a way to disable this undesired behaviour.

The renderer should have no effect on the way the server library is displayed in the control point.

It appears this behavour may depend on how many items are in the main menu. For a server with 14 items in the main menu, I see this problem. For a server with 11 items in the main menu, I don't. In both cases, the selected renderer is a Linn DS.

OK, I have only 11 items in my main menu so haven't encountered the problem.
(You might like to post a review of the Audionet app pointing out this limitation.)
