RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
I am not planning to make any changes as this has only happened once, according to my server logs. The problem could have been caused at the server end or anywhere between the server and your home. The issue is not the failed download (these are bound to happen occasionally) but the unexpected behaviour of the Melco when it happened.

Roger that, Simon, I understand (I think!), thanks. I will try the v2.0.6 install again and report back here as to how it goes.

Melco HA-N1ZH60 Mk1 (MinimServer 2.2) → USB → Luxman D-07X Black Edition Centennial SACD Player/DAC → XLR → Mark Levinson No. 523 → RCA → JL Audio E-Sub e110 (active crossover @ 100 Hz) → RCA → Bryston 4B3 (Cubed) → Magnepan .7

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
Hi Simon. I just tried to delete the three old "core" files but was not successful. This is the message I received as to each file:

"The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items."

As for v2.0.6, I am attempting again to install it. So far, it has been 15 minutes and the Melco display still shows, "Install in progress... Please wait..."

I have high-speed Internet (500+ Mbps). How long should the download and install take? Thanks.

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
Forty-five minutes and counting on this second attempt to install v2.0.6, the Melco display still shows, "Install in progress... Please wait..."

I am going to bail out of this endless installation loop by powering down the Melco (e.g., by pulling the AC power cord out of the back ... again).

Simon, I hope a solution can be found. If not, I may have to roll back to v0.8. Thanks.

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
I checked the server logs. This time, 15318336 bytes (out of 16824320) were downloaded before the failure.

This has not happened with any other downloads of this file by other users, so it seems likely that there is something specific to your setup that is causing this download to fail. For example, there could be a hardware issue with one of your network components that connects your Melco to the internet (cable, switch router, etc.) that only shows up when the Melco is doing a large download. It is hard to diagnose problems like this.

I will pass this information to Melco and ask if they have any ideas about the possible cause.

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
Melco have come back to me with some suggestions. They suggest that you could try removing all USB devices (DAC and/or external drives) from your machine when you try the 2.0.6 update.

They have also suggested that this could be related to the speed of your internet connection. Have you had any other issues with your internet connection speed and/or downloads failing?

I do not recommend going back to MinimServer 0.8. I am thinking about other possible solutions. For now, it will be fine to leave the machine on MinimServer 2.0.5 with update 153.

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
Hi Simon. No problems with Internet speed (500+ Mbps) or connectivity. I regularly transfer -- via WiFi and without interruption -- files to the Melco in batches that are more than 100x the size of the twice-failed 16MB v2.0.6 download. The only USB peripheral connected to the Melco is my DAC. While anything is possible, I suppose, I do not think my Internet connection or the USB-connected DAC is the issue, and it is somewhat rich that Melco would suggest as much given that its $5,000 high-tech box goes kablooey when a 16MB update fails to complete. I know v3.92b is beta firmware, but a disabled power button is a bridge too far in my view.

I will stick with MS2 for now, but I think I will wait for v2.0.7 and/or v3.92-final before I attempt another MS2 update. Thanks for keeping me in the loop. I hope a solution is on the horizon.

RE: Seemingly Serious Problem Updating to MS2 v2.0.6 in Melco N1Z/1
Simon

I'm having a not disimilar issue updating to 2.0.6 on my Melco N1 - Watch has updated and tells me 2.0.6 is available but the package never appears in the available package list.

I may just be inattentive but the Melco reports running on port 9791 - I thought it should be 9790. 9790 is given as the http.port but 9791 as the ohnet.port (is this significant? has this changed?)

Thanks
David

David,

I have updated mine successfully by following the Updating Minimserver section of the Quick Start for Melco N1 guide

Updating MinimServer

To check for and install a new version of MinimServer, do the following:

From the Melco front panel main menu, select Settings > Music Database > Version Check
If there is a newer version of MinimServer available, it will be shown
Select OK to download and install the new version
Some minor updates are delivered automatically as online updates when MinimServer starts. For this, your Melco device needs to have internet access.

Peter

Many thanks it has worked for me - I've got so used to getting Package updates through Watch on my iMac I clearly haven't transitioned to the Ver 2 ways of doing things yet.
