RE: location of minimserver on network
Simon/David -- Last nite I had the opportunity to install minimserver on my Zuma, the Windows 8 platform that also runs Jplay streamer. My Synology NAS is connected via router/ethernet. I have a modest-sized library on the NAS -- about 1,100 albums. It took the Zuma-based minimserver about 10 or 15 minutes to scan the library -- roughly the same time it took for the Synology-based minimserver to do the same thing. So, at least for my library, in my network, an overhead "penalty" for scanning the library wasn't apparent.
I'm also pleased to report that the sound quality was fantastic. I'm not ready to declare victory, but my little issue with occasional white noise bursts (always between tracks, for < 1 second) did not occur in this session, with the minimserver and Jplay streamer in the same box. Fingers crossed! Thanks to everyone on this thread for your input. -- David |
