There is a case for providing a simple 'get you started' mode for new or technically uninterested users (and for technically challenged dealers to use during demonstrations). But a competently designed control point should surely be able to use the browse tree provided by the server if that is what the user wants.

All in all, I have decided to give the Kazoo beta in its present form a miss. The combination of Bubble DS and MinimServer is working too well for me to be tempted elsewhere. But I do feel sorry for iOS users, who do not at present seem to have a fully satisfactory control point to use.

Hi David

On the IOS front that would be me with Kinsky. At least I get to use my tagging, Kazoo well the noise is appropriate. Tongue

I saw that, and I have been very surprised that there is no OpenHome specification documenting the protocol that Kazoo Server uses to communicate with Kazoo. My request for this specification received an apparently positive response followed by absolutely nothing....

Thanks for your support.

I take the point about Kinsky (which I use pretty much daily on my PCs). I had forgotten that the iOS implementation has features other implementations lack (including UPnP Search, if memory serves); the Android version also has a playlist editing mode which is, frankly, a bit of an unfinished mess. But what now makes Kinsky not 'fully satisfactory' is that it is obsolescent, and all the development work is presumably going into Kazoo.

Apart from that somewhat important point, what makes Bubble DS/UPnP the front runner for me on Android is the way in which the simple and logical user interface becomes so intuitive with regular use, and seems to bring the right controls to hand when you need them. Kinsky is OK (and quite nice to look at), but it isn't really in the same league.

One can only speculate, but this information, taken with the enormous 'to do' list implied by the announcement, suggests to me that either Kazoo must change fairly radically from what it is now, or the project will bomb. The worst case is that Linn will find themselves committed to software which is dealer friendly (that is easy to demonstrate impressively) but much too restrictive for the real needs of long term users - almost a re-run of DNLA in fact.

When other servers are available, Kazoo server just seems to be a waste of effort. Is Linn suffering from the "Not Invented Here" syndrome, one wonders. That would hardly be consistent with a commitment to open systems ...

There is a "Search" field, but it doesn't do a UPnP search. It does a local search of the current browsing container.

Thank you. I did not know that; it rather strengthens the point about the limited selection of control points for iOS users.

RE: Linn Kazoo
Yes !!!

The latest beta nightly build of Kazoo has the matrix album display available when using MinimServer. Previously this was only available with KazooServer.

I can see my favourites now being MinimServer for server and Kazoo for control point.

Looking forward to other features and enhancements to come

Unfortunately, no playlist shows, and in Artist view no Album art only treble clefts!
