BBC radio streams not working

RE: BBC radio streams not working
Just to let you know that I've got BBC HLS streams to play on my Sonos system using minimserver. I was most impressed that it worked first time!

I did this by setting up custom radio stations on Sonos with the URL pointing at the IP address of the computer running minimserver.

I've mentioned this on the Sonos forums so you should get more users from there.

Is there a way of getting the station icon to display using a URL pointed at minimserver?

I'm pleased to hear this is working on Sonos.

MinimServer allows you to assign custom icons to the entries in a .m3u playlist. You need to be using a UPnP control point to see these icons.

Do you know what mechanism Sonos uses to display icons for custom radio stations?

i don't know how Sonos displays icons for custom radio stations or even if it can.

I don't understand what you are trying to achieve. Your earlier post referred to stream type and you are now talking (I think) about stream ID.
Sorry, I may have misunderstood an earlier post from you.

I thought you suggested, when asking that I don't publicise this yet, that the URL I could add to vtuner might be of a form something like:
Code:
http://192.168.1.10:9790/minimstreamer/ID/R3
where R3 is an ID from a local playlist. That way the complexity of the BBC URLs and any changes they may make in future, would be in my local playlists and easier to change.

I was hoping (with no evidence) that my Musical Fidelity (MF) would be better able to handle this (my Marantz already works with the full form). The addition of stream type was a separate trial of a possible way of persuading the MF to work, but unfortunately without success.

I am working on implementing the short URL feature now. It is purely for convenience and has no effect on whether or not the stream will play. When this support is available, you will be able to use any of the following URL formats:

Code:
http://192.168.1.10:9790/minimstreamer/*/R3
http://192.168.1.10:9790/minimstreamer/*/R3/$!stream.aac
http://192.168.1.10:9790/minimstreamer/*/R3/$!transcode.wav

The file extension in the latter two formats is required by certain UPnP renderers such as the Chord CodeX. It is not required for internet radios.

Note that the '*' in these URLs isn't related to the '*' in the stream.transcode setting. This might have been a previous point of confusion.

The reason I asked you not to publicise this before I have the short URL form working is that I want to make it as simple as possible for users to enter these URLs into their internet radios.

I am creating a web page with brief instructions on how to set this up for an internet radio. When this page is available, I will post the URL here.

Thanks.

I had assumed that the * was related to the * in playlist IDs, not in transcode. Is that right?

No, that '*' is different as well.

Support for short URLs is now available in MinimStreamer 0.5.3. The new web page with "how to" information for internet radios is also available at http://minimradio.com (not yet indexed by search engines).

Please publicise this on the BBC blog and anywhere else that you hang out. Smile

I already have the 'aac' stream type set for the streams in the BBC playlist otherwise I can't get my Pioneer & Denon streamers to work, if you remember. Not sure why they change to the '*' transcoding when I add the '*' input type in that case. I only have that '*:wav' transcoding spec in stream.transcode, BTW.

I have fixed this in MinimStreamer 0.5.3. It should now work the way you (and I) were expecting, with the * transcoding input type only used for streams that don't have a stream type specified.

Cool - I'll try this out later.

Apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere, but if MinimServer with MinimStreamer 0.5.2 is installed already, how do you upgrade MinimStreamer?

Does it mean downloading the latest version of MinimServer and reinstalling it?
