As 4 years your senior, a Synology and mac user, I understand!
I just followed the instructions on the MinimServer site to install the software on the NAS. Yes, you need to install MinimWatch on your Mac to enable you to control and set up MinimServer on your NAS. You don't need minimstreamer for your iPad, I use 8player lite on my IPad. You may need MinimStreamer on your NAS if you want to stream DSD64 files to your streamer. Sorry, I cannot comment on your items 4&5 as I have ripped my CDs on a windows system.
