The command - sudo update-alternatives --display java - now gives the following

java - auto mode
link currently points to /opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/bin/java
/opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/bin/java - priority 2000
slave java.1.gz: /opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/man/man1/java.1.gz
Current 'best' version is '/opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/bin/java'.

And your earlier command - java -version

gives:

java version "1.7.0_45"
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot™ Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)

So I assume I now have only one version installed and no duplicates or earlier versions or IceTea versions etc.
However I still get the same error message that doesn't allow the icon to appear and therefore no access to minimwatch.

Cheers, Rene

Please can you do what I have suggested a number of times:

1) Run sudo apt-get purge for all the openjdk packages shown in 'dpkg -l'

2) Run sudo apt-get autoremove (this step is very important)

3) After doing this, run 'dpkg -l' again to confirm that all the openjdk packages are no longer listed

4) After confirming this, please email me the complete listing from 'dpkg -l'
