How to set autoUpdate to false using .profile ?

That is what I thought as well: in my default.profile I added
.autoUpdate = false

Here is what my .profile looks like:
.profileVersion = 2.2
contentDir=/media/library
.autoUpdate = false

But when starting minimserver and going into Properties > System I can see .autoUpdate is grey and still set to true
