I use the MinimServer log routinely to identify and trace metadata problems, and very useful it is too. When I fix a problem, I clear the log and restart MinimServer to check that the fix has worked. When I restart, the old entries from the log reappear (though from the latest stop and restart entries I can distinguish between previous and current error entries).

If I reboot the NAS, the log is cleared for the restart of MinimServer. It could be that the log would be cleared if I restarted MinimServer from the ReadyNAS Dashboard, but with the latest software (RAIDiator 5.3.8) I haven't found a way to do this.

Should MinimServer be clearing the log completely when instructed to do so from MinimWatch?

David

When you say "the log", do you mean the log window that is displayed by selecting 'Show log' from the minim icon? If I clear this log window using the Clear button and then restart MinimServer from the minim icon, I don't see any old log entries from before the time that the Clear button was clicked.

If you're referring to the minimserver.log file on disk (viewable via the Backup share), this isn't cleared until the MinimServer process restarts, but you can clear it manually while MinimServer is running by deleting the minimserver.log file.

I'm running RAIDiator 5.3.8, and I can stop the MinimServer process by clicking the Dashboard icon for MinimServer, unchecking the box in the top left corner of the MinimServer add-on pop-up, and clicking the Save button. To restart MinimServer, I check the box in the top left corner of the MinimServer add-on pop-up and click the Save button.
