My understanding was that the reload just reads the library once more which I do when some of my top level covers have changed, as an example; while the update sends the "update" command to minimserver which then scans the library to find new tracks.

Reload does not check for new files, while update does.

That’s not right.
There are three specific buttons :
- Rescan - issues a library rescan to Minimserver, without updating Lumïn app db
- Update - after a Minimserver library rescan it just update the content of Lumïn app db with new/modified albums/tracks
- Reload - it delete the Lumïn app db and reload it from scratch from Minimserver
