I believe you could also use a VLAN for this purpose. I haven't tried this myself.

Yes, I understand, and it's actually not a bad idea if you want to restrict access to your music collection.

But I don't want to restrict access to my music collection. I want people on my network to be able to bring their own renderers. What I am looking for is a way to block people except myself from changing the MinimServer settings, most likely by mistake, perhaps intentionally.
