When you said "which involves more selections than I would like", I was imagining dozens, but as you say, what you really want is a defined hierarchy, something which MinimServer isn't designed for.
You mention that you sometimes also want to browse by comment, so the only way to achieve what you want would be to somehow define multiple browse paths and choose them at the top level, which does feel like a step backwards.

I had a look at Upplay on Ubuntu and it seems functional. I had assumed the tabs would have been renderers but they're music sources, which I don't really get the value of, although I suppose it suits you as you can "bookmark" the Artist hierarchy as your entry point.
Still, if I want a desktop control point it'll probably be my go-to from now on, although I did struggle with the Server Side album search; for some reason it was searching on the raw album tag, and not the .displayFormat value (my raw tag value is an album id so I can have MinimServer group albums how I want without merging). A server side search in BubbleUPnP doesn't do that, so not sure what's going on there given it should be the same for both (given it's server side).
