RE: FLAC Files with the "≫" Character in File Name Won't Play
Hi Simon. Thanks very much for trying to assist me with this esoteric and apparently Melco-based problem. I understand that you are not able to replicate the problem I am experiencing. As it turns out, the problem is even worse than I thought originally (everything is relative, of course; in the overall scheme of things, this is a "first-world" problem and I am not attempting over-dramatize it). The Melco still does not recognize numerous FLAC files with "≫" in the file name. Except, that is, when I go to delete the folders from the Melco that contain these files. At that point, I get an error message stating that one or more of the seemingly invisible files is "in use" and cannot be removed. I also tried copying a folder from the Melco containing several of these 'invisible' files to my MacBook Pro desktop. The files with "≫" in the name do not copy.

This bizarre behavior is seemingly consistent with @BB1's post from July 2019, in which he wrote in part:

"With [Melco firmware] v.3.90 things became worse. If importing the very same file via USB in this version, it was invisible, i.e. it couldn’t be edited, moved or deleted at all.
In order to get access to the file I had to downgrade the [Melco] firmware."

At this point, I am leaning toward running the Melco character replacement option. If I do so, I will report back here as to how it goes. I would rather not have to do so, though, due to the Law of Unintended Consequences, of course. Any other suggestions would be welcome. (The only things that come to mind currently are downgrading the Melco firmware and/or downgrading from MinimServer 2 to MinimServer 0.8.)

Melco HA-N1ZH60 Mk1 (MinimServer 2.2) → USB → Luxman D-07X Black Edition Centennial SACD Player/DAC → XLR → Mark Levinson No. 523 → RCA → JL Audio E-Sub e110 (active crossover @ 100 Hz) → RCA → Bryston 4B3 (Cubed) → Magnepan .7
