I applied the first of your command lines and have a page full of information, so how do I save it for your assessment?

Update: I tried to select all and copy, but PuTTY seemed to lock up and I could not enter anything from the keyboard, so I closed PuTTY and restarted, but it only allowed me to enter the login name, then would not allow me to type from the keyboard to enter the password.

Apologies if I am making newbie mistakes, but your advice would be much welcomed.
