I don't know if it's a default or even if that's what fixed it, but I never changed it. Be aware that it was only the lo interface that didn't have multicast set. Not sure if that has any effect on traffic totally within the same system or if something else reset at the cold boot. The motherboard has 2 wired, eth1 and eth2, and both those were already set with multicast. I loaded a few other distros in a Virtualbox setup and never had an issue running in those, so somehow unique to my setup. We'll see if it stays at next reboot. I'll keep you advised.
