For some reason I didn't see your earlier posting about sending a longer log. Hopefully it won't be necessary because after a lot of troubleshooting I think I've found the cause of the problem – the Energy Saving settings on my iMac. Even though the screen remained on, giving the impression that it was still active, I think that while I was downstairs listening to music, the system was going to sleep. Now that I've set it never to sleep, all seems to be okay. I'll let you know if this changes but right now I'm cautiously confident that all's working as it should. Thank you for your help.
