Well, the strange thing is, the only disk that seems to allow full backup is USB powered only. The other HDs I've tried are all externally powered. As I say, it really doesn't make sense to me.

I'm currently "Backing up" by dragging a section of files from the Melco's network share across onto a Thunderbolt drive attached to my iMac. This is laborious because every now & then the process stops with a message that "you don't have permission to access some files". Doesn't tell me which ones, and if I go to the last successful files to transfer, and pick the next one down only, then it transfers fine.

Something else that is beyond weird - there are a couple of albums that only show on the bubble uPnP app. if I go into "All artists", and will play, but they don't show up on the file share on the iMac.
