RE: rescan on Synology

As such, it is on my "wish list" but I cannot provide any estimate of timescale or give a commitment that it will be supported. As one of those whom Simon quotes, I understand his position on this. Leaving aside the technical challenges, from a user perspective there is a real dilemma about when auto rescan would be useful and when it would just get in the way. As a rescan is not needed unless and until the user changes the content of the library, it is probably best if the user, rather than the system, decides when enough change has happened to warrant a rescan. If I have a batch of 20 CDs to rip and tag, I should only need to do the rescan once. I don't pretend to understand all the technical challenges. What I do know is that media servers can become completely unusable when they implement auto rescanning ineptly. I'd much rather have a reliable manual system than one with unpredictable or disruptive automation. David |
