Following the original M3U specification (see this page), MinimServer uses the ISO-8859-1 character encoding if the file extension .m3u and it uses the UTF-8 character encoding if the file extension is .m3u8. So if the file extension is .m3u, the UTF-8 representation of Hélène Grimaud is decoded according to the ISO-8859-1 rules, which doesn't produce a correct result.
