RE: Minim server + Synology NAS kills custom dedicated pc on music sound quality
I think the best decision is to have both NAS and streamer on one dedicated PC like Melco N1: minimized OS with only two installed apps (audioserver - MinimServer is best! and upnp streamer player - Jplay, Jriver, Foobar etc.), small volume SSD/DOM/Compact Flash Card for OS, large volume SSD/SSDs for music library, separate good Linear PSs for system board, SSDs, USB Card/Sound Card with good clock, fanless full aluminium chassis, fanless system board.
The lack of an ethernet interface between the NAS and the streamer has a favorable effect on sound quality. My Linn KRDS unfortunately don't have SATA socket for connection of SSD and there is no way to install audioserver too. |
