Another thing you could try is changing aac:wav to aac:L16. For this, you might need to adjust the playlist by changing [*R3] to [*R3;aac,48000] so that the renderer receives the correct sample rate.

Thanks for these ideas. Unfortunately they don't make a difference, except that aac:L16, after a pause, streams an unimaginably awful high pitch jumble of unrecognisable noise. Log of that attached.
