best way to achieve this with minimserver
Simon,
I was wondering if you can point me at the best way to achieve this. I have taken a look at the tagging guide notes and I am still not sure and so thought best to ask. Everything is pretty awesome and the only thing I miss currently is the absence of a random list generation that I know you have on your candidate to do list and so this is less about features and more about how to achieve something with the current features. On our NAS server we have our combined music collection - i.e. - my wife, mine and our son's music and so on. Tastes overlap anyway and mostly that is OK. As the 'collection' has grown I realise that it would be more than helpful to be able to add a tag (or use an existing tag) that signified whose music the album was. With the intention that during playback we would be able to in effect filter against that tag in a similar way to how the audioquality feature works today. So ideally I would in effect be able to see the collections, choose one and then see the menu items I see today. The workaround that I can think of is that if I organise the music as sub folders under our family names in an overall folder called music then I could simply point the server at a sub folder for one collection and then rescan. Then when wanting everything point it at Music. This obviously works but relies on a rescan and with approaching 3500 albums it's not instant first time around. It would work though and happy to do it that way if there isn't a better way within the current features. |
