RE: GETTING STARTED
(07-11-2015 06:18)rockerz Wrote: So I have purchased a high end Buffalo router and I cannot find anywhere to enable wireless multicast streaming. I did also download a version of Asset UPNP. I like Minimserver much better, but I have no trouble accessing Asset like I do Minimserver. Does that give you any clues as to what might be my problem? Is it possible that there is an issue with my iPad? Thanks again for all of your help. I really like your program and I would love to have it work consistently for me. The correct functioning of Asset is further evidence that the problem is related to wireless multicast discovery. Asset is broadcasting SSDP "alive" messages every 60 seconds as a crude workaround for the muticast discovery issue. The ohNet UPnP stack that MinimServer uses doesn't do this. I have discussed this with the ohNet developers and their response was that it isn't good idea to flood the network in this way and it isn't necesssary to do this if the client and the network are functioing correctly. If you observe this closely, you will probably notice that Asset isn't discovered immediately when the iPad comes out of sleep but takes a little while to show up (less than 60 seconds). Similarly, you should see that MinimServer shows up when it broadcasts its next "alive" message (up to 15 minutes). If your network is working correctly, the discovery should be instant in both cases. What exactly is your complete network setup? What is the exact model of the Buffalo router you are now using? Are you using a switch as well as a router? How is the QNAP running MinimServer connected to the network? Do you have any powerline connections? |
