Honestly, I don't know if that's the case; I anecdotally believe the difference has more to do with MPD vs. GMediaRender, as opposed to the source of the audio data.

I have read comments on other forums questioning the sound quality of GMediaRender. I've never looked at the code for either component, so I wouldn't be able to hazard a guess as to why.
