RAID has advantages for availability, as a RAID array can continue to function when one disk fails.

You could achieve something similar by having a secondary NAS that acts as a backup for the main NAS. If the main NAS fails, you can use the secondary NAS until the main NAS is back in operation.

RAID is not a backup and should not be regarded as a substitute for a good backup discipline.
