RE: Best Way to Back up Music Library
@gnomus
The definition of your left hand (source) folder surprised me. Is there no 'music' folder on the 213J? If there isn't (and you have music folders and only music folders in the root of the 213J), you have defined the source correctly. If there is a specific music folder, it should be the source. You may have a situation where music folders are mixed up with other data. In that case the best thing would be to create a specific music folder, move all the music folders/files (and only them) into it, set it as the MinimServer contentDir and specify it as the left hand folder for the SyncToy task. Your other settings are, with one exception, the same as I use, and I think that they should work well for you. The exception is that I don't tick the 'check file contents' setting. Effectively, this replaces matching via file names and time stamps with comparisons of hashes generated from the file contents. Not only will this slow things up considerably, it could under certain circumstances result in a lot more copying than you intend. You can certainly untick this option for the first run of the copying task. Subject to those recommendations, I see no reason why you can't have a go with the task as defined. It will be interesting to know how quickly the NAS to NAS copying task goes (the initial full run is at least a one off); I only have the one NAS, and so this is something I have not tried. David |
