I would say settle on a scheme you are happy with and stick to it. As long as you are consistent and can pass the relevant tags to your control point then it's good.
I use Year for the date the album originally came out as this tends to be set by tagging programs and picked up by most control points. To me, I feel that an album is fixed in time when it first came out, so Beatles still is 60s/70s regardless of when the Cd or download appeared. I then use Original Year for the date the Cd or download "originally" was issued. So in the case of the Beatles this may be when the 16/44 download appeared. I know this might not make sense to others but it works for me :-) So get a scheme that works for you and go with it.
