Right now, as it happens, I am unable to do so. When dsf:dopwav is set, low-level static emerges. Leaving no DSD transcoding settings plays music (but is it DSD?).

This depends on your renderer. It sounds like your renderer supports streaming native DSD but doesn't support DoP/WAV (which it is playing as low-level static). You will need to check with the renderer manufacturer whether the renderer is playing a native DSD stream as DSD music.

The supported transcoding combinations are listed in this section. AIFF is not currently supported as a transcoding input type.

For Debian Linux, avconv is recommended because ffmpeg on Debian is a deprecated wrapper over avconv. For other platforms, you can choose whichever is most easily available.
