This isn't correct. The UPnP AV specification includes the optional service action SetNextAVTransportURI which can be used by UPnP AV renderers and control points to support gapless play.

Fortunately, this isn't true. If the extension is compatible with the DLNA protocols and the product passes the DLNA conformance tests, the product can be certified as DLNA.

Thank you, Simon, for these helpful corrections. It is clear that there is no reason why a DLNA certified player cannot support gapless play.
