I see your point. I was actually suggesting only that you experiment. If the player can play gapless when directly connected to the source, that gives you a basis for arguing that it should be able to do the same when network connected. It is the kind of change that could, I believe, be implemented in a firmware upgrade.

Actually, the best solution is to develop the relevant standards (see my previous post) so that they are both open and meet users' needs, and then for manufacturers to implement those standards. This is exactly what I would expect Apple not to do. But maybe I'm prejudiced ...

Of course it's your call as to how much the issue matters to you. But, to be fair, the technical step forward has, in fact, been made, fully. Unfortunately, it has not been fully implemented on your player.
