UTF-8 at Synology NAS (PPC)
Hello,

I've a problem with UTF-8 filenames with german characters "öüä".
All other stuff is running fine.

Here is the log:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
MinimServer 0.72, Copyright © 2012, 2013 Simon Nash. All rights reserved.
Platform default charset is US-ASCII
starting MinimServer
MinimServer[nas-lang1] is running
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

System:
DS213+
DSM 4.3.3776.3
java version "1.7.0_45"
installed from repository URL http://packages.pcloadletter.co.uk

Could anyone help me to solve this?

Very thanks in advanced.

BL

Ok, roblem fixed.

I'd changed following variables within the "/etc/profile" file:
LANG=de_DE.utf8
LC_ALL=de_DE.utf8

and add LC_ALL to the "export" line.

Now it works perfect.

Bye

Thanks for reporting this problem.

My guess is that either MinimServer or the patters Java package might not be fully compatible with DSM 4.3. In DSM 4.3, locale support is included for the first time. Because of the previous lack of locale support in DSM, both the MinimServer package and the patters Java package contain workaround code to enable locale support themselves. It's possible that something in this workaround code isn't doing the right thing on DSM 4.3.

Has anyone else running DSM 4.3 noticed a similar problem? The message at the start of the MinimServer log should say:

Platform default charset is UTF-8

If the message says US-ASCII instead, please let me know. Thanks!

RE: UTF-8 at Synology NAS (PPC)
Simon,

I have the same problem. Just bought a new DS213J, running DSM 4.3. Installed Java and Minimserver as per the instructions. Everything is running fine except when I start Minimserver I get a notification in the DSM web interface that "UTF-8 locale and charset are not available". Also, I noticed that at least one album was not indexed because of the characters used in the artist name.
Not sure if I want to hack into system files like FunRace900 did to fix this.

Hope you can help
Marcel

Thanks for letting me know. I will update my NAS to 4.3 and try this myself, but I won't be able to get to this until early next week.

Hacking into system files should be OK if you are careful to make a backup of the original versions, so that you can put everything back to its original state later. Some system files are critical for starting the NAS, so you need to be extra cautious about changing these.

I also have this problem, but one more to add, I'm using kinsky as the control point and when I select minim server it will only show two of the folders in the shared music file, if I select the synology server it will show all of the folders, (this is on the DS213+)

I am working on a fix for this. I should be able to make it available tomorrow.

test build of MinimServer-0.72-arm.spk
test build of MinimServer-0.72-ppc.spk
test build of MinimServer-0.72-x86.spk

Please let me know whether this fixes the problem.
