You might be able to find more information about the MinimWatch start error in the minimwatch.log and/or minimwatch-out.log files in the ~/Library/MinimWatch folder. Another place you could look is the macOS console log. To view this, open the Applications/Untilities/Console program.

There's nothing recent in either of the log files. The relevant bit of the console log is:

RE: MinimWatch on MacOs
From this log, it looks like you didn't follow step 4 in this section but have launched MinimWatch from the .dmg volume window.

RE: MinimWatch on MacOs
This looks like the same problem. See the log entry at 22:29:42.376499 referring to file:///Volumes/MinimWatch-0.8.5.2-macos/MinimWatch.app//com.minimserver.watch. Perhaps you need to logout/login or reboot the Mac to flush some cache of previous attempts.

RE: MinimWatch on MacOs
This shows the same problem with file:///Volumes/MinimWatch-0.8.5.2-macos/MinimWatch.app//com.minimserver.watch (see the message at 12:59:52.882878).

Is this happening after you have dragged MinimWatch from the .dmg window to the Applications directory and powered the machine off and on? For some reason, the console log is still showing the previous incorrect location for this file.

RE: MinimWatch on MacOs
It is (still happening that is).

I'm not sure if there are any other users trying to run MinimWatch under Catalina, and whether any of them are having similar issues. If it's just me then I wouldn't spend any more time on it Simon.

RE: MinimWatch on MacOs
You could try a few more things:

1) Rename the MinimWatch file that is currently in the Applications folder and try double-clicking the renamed file

2) After doing this rename, drag a new copy of MinimWatch from the .dmg window to some other folder (not Applications) and see if double-clicking it from the other folder produces a different result

3) Try installing MinimServer to see if this works. If you haven't installed MinimServer previously, there should be no incorrect cached entries from previous attempts.

One more idea: I wonder if you have accidentally created a symbolic link when you dragged MinimWatch to your Applications folder (see this article). You need to have a copy of the MinimWatch launcher in your Applications folder, not a link.

RE: MinimWatch on MacOs
Curiouser and Curiouser.

Your option 1 worked - I renamed MinimWatch in the Applications folder using Finder, double clicked on the renamed file and MinimWatch sprang into life.

Not sure why, but hey....

Thanks very much Simon.

RE: MinimWatch on MacOs
Thanks for letting me know. This confims that the problem was caused by out-of-date cached information in macOS about the application named MinimWatch.
