DSF file problems with syno213j onkyo tx-rz810
hi All,

I've read a lot of issues, but i can't find the solution for me.-
i'm not able to play lot of the dsf files.

I've tried:
- dsf:dopwav - most of the cases the result is silence, 1-2 works fine
- dsf: wav24;176 - a lot of the files are starting to play, but after 15-20 sec. comes the silence (i have the same result with dsf:wav24;88 as well.)
- dsf: wav -like the dsfwav24;176

etc.. i'm just starting to give up -- the interesting thing is, when i use the Synology's own mediaserver, i can play more files, and the AVR shows me: dsd 2,8Mz/1 bit.

i'll be greatful for all answers

I think the problem is caused by using a DS213j to run MinimServer. Transcoding from DSF to WAV needs more CPU resources than the DS213j can provide. You can confirm this by looking at the CPU consumption in Resource Monitor on the DS213j. If this is close to 100%, this is definitely the reason for the problem.

Hi Simon,

Thank You, i've just tested it, and yes, this can cause the "silence".
When i started to play the cpu usage went up to 99%. and was there until i stopped the playing.

thank you again, and i congratulation for your program!

RE: DSF file problems with syno213j onkyo tx-rz810
hi,
i've just bought a new NAS: Synology DS218.

i can play a lot of files with: DSF: wav24;88,2 (24;176 not working- just a silence)
the usage of the proc is about 20%, the lan is high, see the attachment.

is there a settings to play the other file, details attached?
thanks

How is the NAS connected to the Onkyo renderer? For example, is it all via Ethernet cables or are there any links that use wi-fi or homeplugs (Ethernet over power cable)?

They are connected to the same switch, with ethernet cable.

Is it a gigabit switch or fast Ethernet (100 Mb/s)? The file you are streaming has 6 channels and this might be pushing the capacity of a fast Ethernet switch.

I have a DS118 (same CPU as the DS218) and this is streaming a 2-channel DSD128 file transcoded to WAV 32/352800 with no problems. I can't try a 6-channel file because I don't have any equipment that can play this.

RE: DSF file problems with syno213j onkyo tx-rz810
I have a tplink gigabit switch, attached directly to the main router.

I thought the minimserver can transform it to eg. 24/176 wav.

I attached an other file's properties, wich i can play in 24;88 but i can't play it in 24;176.- there is only silence, but i can see the time dates and other properties on screen(lenght, the time of the play etc..) but no sounds.

i think my avr is able to play it:.
• Network Hi-Res Audio (DSD 5.6 MHz, 192/24 PCM, Dolby® TrueHD)

This file has 5 channels. I am only able to test with 2-channel files. Do you have any problems when playing 2-channel files?

no, they are fine. -i can them play them with my avr with a better quality through the synology's own DLNA mediaserver. (it plays them in DSD 2,8 mhz/1 bit)

but i have a lot of 5-6 ch files (concerts..etc.), and i thought i can play them with minimserver transcoding them on fly to wav format.
as i wrote it works with 24;88, but in 24;176 no sound.

ps: if the minimserver can handle only the stereo files, than i need to uninstall it.
thank You for your help!
