RE: MinimServer on Synology DS213+
This is incorrect. There are more than 10K audio files there (mostly in the forms of FLAC and MP3).

If MinimServer can't find these files, this suggests a charset encoding issue with filenames or directory names. If there is a non-UTF8 character in the file's name or anywhere in its directory path, MinimServer won't be able to find the file.

1) Please post an "ls -l" listing of the contents of one of the directories containing audio files. Please also include the fully qualified path to this directory.

2) Please copy one of the audio files to the top-level 'music' directory and rename the copied file to 'test1.flac'. If you restart MinimServer, does MinimServer find this test1.flac file?

I think there must be a problem with the permissions on either the '02 Jazz' directory or the 'Norah Jones' directory. The minimserver daemon user is able to see the '02 Jazz' directory, but isn't able to see the 'Norah Jones' directory underneath it.

RE: MinimServer on Synology DS213+
The permission is consistent throughout the "music" directory and subs, where all the users have the permission to read.

Let's try to narrow this down a bit. If you move the test1.flac file from 'music' to '02 Jazz', does MinimServer find it? If this works OK, what happens if you move test1.flac from '02 Jazz' to 'Norah Jones'?

Unfortunately, Simon, MinimServer cannot find the file when I move it to '02 Jazz'. I tried to change the rename the folder to 'Jazz' or something else but it didn't work, either.

OK, we're definitely narrowing down the cause of the problem.

It seems there is something about the "02 Jazz" folder that MinimServer (or Java) doesn't like. Did you create this folder locally on the Synology, or did you create it from another machine via a network share? If it was the latter, I think there must be something about the way this folder was created that is preventing MinimServer getting access to it.

Please can you try the following:

1) Create a new folder "02 Jazz Test" locally on the Synology, then put the test1.flac file in it and make sure MinimServer can find it there.

2) If step 1) was successful, run the command
cp -pr "/volume1/music/02 Jazz"/* "/volume1/music/02 Jazz Test"

This will copy the entire subtree under "02 Jazz" to an identical subtree under "02 Jazz Test". If you now restart MinimServer, can it find the files under "02 Jazz Test"?

RE: MinimServer on Synology DS213+
Thanks for the guidance, Simon. Going through the process I've found where the issue is -- it's the permission to "execute" that counts.
Once I change the directory permission to 755, MinimServer can find it right away. Now MinimServer is working properly. Thanks you soooooo much for your help and patience to make it work in the end.

After trying a few mins, I soon realize this is indeed a truly, thoughtfully-designed server for classic music lovers. Great job, Simon !

Whenever I create a directory using mkdir, I get 755 permissions automatically. This is why I hadn't come across this issue previously.

From a bit of web searching, the "execute" bit for a directory gives permission to traverse the directory's contents (a standard UNIX feature).

I'm glad you've solved the problem and that MinimServer is working well for you now. Enjoy!
