Album Splitting
Hi, I've been using Mimim together with Jriver for a year now.
I have a synology Server and my DAC is Lumin. I couldn't make some albums to be together. The songs are split. Using Jriver I changed the tags, mainly Album Artist and fix the issue, then I rescan minim server from Synology Control Panel, re open Minim Server Library and again splits, however the library I use for J River, same source (are exactly the same files) is OK. I think I need to wipe Minim Server and start a new library, but I'm not sure. If anyone can tell me how can work tags and the changes I make take effect and that allows me to have the library consistent meaning no albums split, I will really[/i] appreciate it. thanks. |

RE: Album Splitting
Simon is away at present, which is why you have not had a reply from him.
It is very unlikely that starting again with MinimServer will fix your issue, because MinimServer defines albums on the basis of tags. The rules it follows are set out in the 'Albums and Folders' section of this page of the User Guide. Broadly, the Album and AlbumArtist tags need to be the same for all tracks for MinimServer to recognise the set of tracks as an album. But it is best to read the full text to be sure that none of the other conditions described are relevant to you. I don't have a Synology NAS, and am therefore unsure about the workings of the rescan from the Control Panel. The normal (and proper) way to control MinimServer is to install MinimWatch on your desktop (Windows, Mac or Linux), run MinimWatch to get its icon in your system tray or taskbar, and right-click on that to select rescan from the menu. Another option on the same menu is to view the MinimServer log, and it is useful to check whether this is showing any error messages. David |

If the songs by different artists are in different folders (this will happen if you have used iTunes to do the ripping), you need to set the mergeFolderAlbums property to 'true' as well as setting the same AlbumArtist tag value for all the files. Another possible cause of the problem is that JRiver might not be writing AlbumArtist tags into your files but only storing these tags in its own database. If this is the cause of the problem, see this page for a solution. |

RE: Album Splitting
Thank you all for the advice. Yes the value was false I've changed and now I'm getting better results.
Now that I have access to the log I discover that many of my files have errors in tags. Here an example truncating incorrect value for DATE tag 2002 There are many fields (tags) with the same error. I've entered into the file using MP3Tag and JRiver and in both cases the tags look normal, I can't discover any invalid character for the songs. Any idea where could be the problem? Thanks. |

This error is caused by a bug in older versions of JRiver that appended a NUL character (0x00) to tag values. If you're seeing this problem for FLAC files, you can fix it by doing a FLAC to FLAC conversion using a converter program such as dBpoweramp or a recent version of JRiver. You aren't seeing this NUL character in Mp3tag because Mp3tag is written in C or C++, which automatically remove this NUL character from a string value. |

[/quote] I've installed JRiver 21 today and when opens Minimserver brings the files with the characters and albums split. I think I need to delete the file that minim server created and generate a new file. Keeps bringing the same file. Thanks! |

You need to re-write the tags to the files using software that does not have the bug (current JRiver or MP3Tag, for example). Rebuilding the MinimServer indexes will not help, as the new indexes would only reference the old, faulty files. I don't know how this works in JRiver, but in MP3Tag you can select a large number of files at once (in it's tabular interface), and then, as Simon says, just re-save the tags to clear the errors, so the job can be done reasonably quickly. RE: Album Splitting
After upgrading to MC21 and doing all type of attempts and following all your instructions, I quit. I'm now adjusting the tags using DBPoweramp but is a very dedicated effort and I can't see what albums have the wrong character. MC21 still split the albums. Fortunately Lumin is reading the modification and the albums that I merge are OK.
Question, any suggestion to replace MC21, any recommendation you have. |
