RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
Here's another useful post. See the comment for a simple way to get all tray icons displayed.

RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
Yeah, tried that, but listing 'minimwatch' didn't work. I'll try a bit more. I'd rather not upgrade Ubuntu as this laptop isn't that well spec'ed.

I get the following, even addin 'all' doesn't work;

gsettings get com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist
['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'scp-dbus-service', 'Update-notifier', 'minimwatch', 'all']

I'll try a bit more

OK, now tried it with the panel setting to 'all' only, but still no success. Interestingly enough the Spotify app could previously and is still showing itself in the toolbar.

Linux remains a challenge!

Did you restart Unity after making this change?

You need to use 'gsettings set', not 'gsettings get'. Try using the following command exactly as shown, including the double quotes and single quotes:

gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']"

RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
Simon, as you can see 'all' is already included. I had also tried just 'all', but same result. It would be interesting to know what Spotify does differently as that Icon appears. I know it is my machine, not the minimwatch program as it worked on another version of Ubuntu, but it is rather annoying!
