RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
Hmm, made a mess of it did I.
I'll have a look how far I get, as with all the other stuff on the laptop I'd rather not do another install. Thanks, Rene. |

RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
I did as advised, but noted that both the older, removed (?) pachages still appear in the listing. Need to read a bit more up on it. When I did a search on the actual error there was a lot of posts that Ubuntu with Unity doesn't allow open use of the trey any more and that programs that want to use it need to be 'allowed' to do so.
This post seems to indicate a wider issue than just my set-up: https://github.com/quen/leafchat/issues/31 More reading to do! I added minimwatch to the allowed programs, but is still doesn't work. We'll get there! Thanks for the help so far!! Regards, Rene |

Adter doing the purge (not remove), you also need to do autoremove to fully remove the purged packages and all their dependencies. I have both Ubuntu 10.04 and 12.04, and the tray icon notification for MinimWatch is working fine for me on both of these. I don't know what you mean by allowed programs. I haven't come across this on my Ubuntu systems. |

RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
Hi Simon, only if you have time...
I did the removal and repeated it, at which time it advised me both packages were removed. However, when I request the package list I still get the following: ii openjdk-6-jre- 6b27-1.12.5-0u OpenJDK Java runtime, using Hotspot JIT (hea ii openjdk-6-jre- 6b27-1.12.5-0u OpenJDK Java runtime (architecture independe ii openjdk-7-jre- 7u21-2.3.9-0ub OpenJDK Java runtime, using Hotspot JIT (hea ii openjdk-7-jre- 7u21-2.3.9-0ub OpenJDK Java runtime (architecture independe Any idea on how to remove these? |

RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
Yes I did. I just followed the following page (http://akbarahmed.com/2012/06/24/uninsta...ntu-linux/) which was helpful as it allowed me to uninstall some 'slave' packages.
The command - sudo update-alternatives --display java - now gives the following java - auto mode link currently points to /opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/bin/java /opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/bin/java - priority 2000 slave java.1.gz: /opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/man/man1/java.1.gz Current 'best' version is '/opt/java/32/jre1.7.0_45/bin/java'. And your earlier command - java -version gives: java version "1.7.0_45" Java SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18) Java HotSpot Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode) So I assume I now have only one version installed and no duplicates or earlier versions or IceTea versions etc. However I still get the same error message that doesn't allow the icon to appear and therefore no access to minimwatch. Cheers, Rene |

Please can you do what I have suggested a number of times: 1) Run sudo apt-get purge for all the openjdk packages shown in 'dpkg -l' 2) Run sudo apt-get autoremove (this step is very important) 3) After doing this, run 'dpkg -l' again to confirm that all the openjdk packages are no longer listed 4) After confirming this, please email me the complete listing from 'dpkg -l' |

RE: Having issues with minimwatch in Ubuntu
Simon, as already confirmed before
Step 1 done a few times Step 2 done a few times At step 3 I noticed both packages (after doing 1 and 2 a few times :-)) were still there Did a web search, found the linked page as in my previous post, did the advised there and managed to uninstall the openjdk packages. They no longer show in the package list. Tried to start minimwatch, but again got the same error message for not being able to put the icon up. Will send you the list. Cheers, Rene |

I'm using 10.04 and 12.04, which both work OK. |
