RE: Accidentally deleted "minimserver" user and can't re-install minimserver on Synology
An update on the progress, at first it seemed working, however I found some of songs (actually half) are not showing up, when doing the indexing, the minimserver are missing songs that are in Asian names (Japanese, Korean and Chinese).

I went to look up on this forum and saw the UTF-8 thread (as the minimserver package MinimServer-0.72.1-x86.spk I downloaded from the main download page shows a warning of "UTF-8 locale and charset are not available."). My previous working minimserver was also downloaded from the main downloaded from the main page.

I followed the suggestion on the UTF-8 thread and downloaded the x86 build thinking to solve the UTF-8 issue, after installation minimwatch won't be able to see the minimserver running on my Synology NAS at all with grey icon. With the MinimServer-0.72.1-x86.spk build, the minimwatch is able to see the minimserver just not indexing songs with Asian names.

Which download gave you a grey icon? Was it one of the downloads linked from this post?

Also, which version of DSM are you running?

Edit: Please try downloading and installing the UTF-8 fix again. There was a problem with the original version of this download, and you might have downloaded it before I replaced it with a working version.

RE: Accidentally deleted "minimserver" user and can't re-install minimserver on Synology
Hi Simon,

Yes the x86 download linked from that post gives grey icon.

And download linked from this main download page shows UTF-8 charset not available warning.

I downloaded from UTF-8 thread shortly before updating this post and I saw you said changed the UTF-8 fix minimserver package, so I believe it was the updated version. But I will give it a try again.

My DSM is the 4.3-3776, when minimserver worked for me fully my NAS was running 4.3-3776 as well that I have not touched the DSM udpate since gotten the MinimServer working. From the main download page, I downloaded a minimserver spk back on 20th Oct and it worked fine before my deleting of the "minimserver" account. Has the version been changed in the main download page been changed since 20th Oct?

P.S. Update, the minimserver spk gives the grey icon is indeed the UTF-8 fix updated version, I just downloaded again and install again with no luck.

The version on the main download page was last changed on 25th September.

Thanks for confirming this. This suggests that some change in the "UTF-8 fix" version is causing the grey icon problem. This is puzzling, as other users have reported success with this version. It's possible that these other users are not using the x86 download. Which model of x86 NAS do you have? Also, did you install Java using Java Manager or using the Java package from patters?

Please try installing the "UTF-8 fix" version and starting it using the DSM Package Center. When startup has completed, use File Station to browse to the folder

homes > minimserver > appData

In this folder, you will find the files minimserver.log and minimserver-out.log. Please attach both these files to a post here. Many thanks!

Please also reboot the NAS in case you have not already done so after deleting the minimserver user from the previous installation. There is a small chance that the Package Center is still busy and not working properly because of the deleted daemon user.

RE: Accidentally deleted "minimserver" user and can't re-install minimserver on Synology
My NAS model is 713+
Please find the 2 log files here:
minimserver.log
minimserver-out.log

I did some digging on my backups and found the old minimserver spk I downloaded back on 20th Oct that worked before the user deletion, after installing it, it won't recognize Asian songs as well. But I do want to stress that, minimserver was working perfectly up until I deleted the user. And I did not do any update on DSM after the user was deleted if the DSM was updated (I don't recall I did at all) it was done way before I deleted the user.

I am using Java package from pcloadletter.co.uk. But I did try installing the Java package from DMS Utility page after failing so many attamps but it tells me Java is needed when I try installing minimserver after the DSM Utility page Java installation. I had to uninstall it and re-install from the community page using the pcloadletter.co.uk source.

When I do the installation, steps are as follows:
Uninstall minimserver
Uninstall Java
Reboot
Install Java
Reboot
Install minimserver
Reboot
No luck...

Thanks for posting the log files. I have identified the cause of the problem. When I refreshed the "UTF-8 fix" downloads, the x86 package did not get refreshed for some reason. I have refreshed the x86 package now, and I have downloaded it and tested it on my own Synology x86 NAS to confirm that it is working. Please download this again from the same URL as previously.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and trouble this has caused you.
